I’ve talked a lot about how important your WHY is, especially in business. It’s the best way to communicate who you are and why what you do is important to you. In times of crisis, communicating your fundamental values is more important than ever. People want to work with companies that they believe in and that share their values. They want to build real relationships with real people and learn more about the faces behind your business. Sharing your WHY is one of the best ways you can start. Sharing your deeper story provides real substance and shares the big purpose behind who you are and what you do. It’s at the core of everything about your business.
People are more engaged than ever, but the more virtual our lives become, the more we crave something genuine. With less face to face meetups and people being more thoughtful about where they spend their money, who you are and WHY you do what you do are more important than ever. People are paying even more attention to these things when making decisions.
I know I’ve said it many times, but I love the quote by Simon Sinek: “People don’t just buy what you do. They buy why you do it.” Right now more than ever, people don’t just want to buy your product or service. They want to do business with someone genuine who they trust and can believe in.
The hard pitch just isn’t effective right now – and honestly it never really was. The most effective way to set your business up for success is to focus on building relationships with your prospects and clients. And sharing your WHY is a great way to start that conversation. It’s never been more important.
